Penelope writes romances and thinks she knows exactly what a wealthy hero ought to do. When she finds Jake Swagger, she decides he can supply the inspiration for her next book and the love story for her own life. Jake has considerably less enthusiasm for the arrangement.

Penelope pictures a swooning first kiss, manages to lick Jake’s teeth, and then accuses him of being bad at kissing. Her confidence survives the evidence. Their argument gives him plenty of opportunities to point out what actually happened.
