Scottie Price invents a husband to fit in at her new job. When her boss offers marriage counseling, she recruits her best friend’s brother Wilder to play the part. His enthusiasm gets them booked into an eight-day couples camp with her colleagues, sharing a cabin while pretending their marriage needs saving.

## What makes it funny?

Wilder treats the fake marriage as an improv exercise. In the excerpt, Scottie is trying to get out of counseling while he eagerly signs them up for more, then celebrates a touchdown in the counselor’s office. Romcom-group readers recommend the book when someone asks for funny romance.

### The comedy at work

Every effort to make the lie convincing gives Scottie another obligation. Wilder’s willingness to agree makes him useful as a fake spouse and disastrous as an accomplice who is supposed to help her leave.

### Try this if…

Extravagant pretend-marriage trouble is the attraction here. The romance grows through enforced closeness and staged marital conflict; the plot asks you to accept increasingly unlikely developments.

### Good to know

This standalone includes explicit sex and the emotional aftermath of Scottie’s painful divorce. Readers describe it as a spicy romance.
