What makes it funny?
Ben’s mother wants bonding time. His twin sisters enjoy his bad luck, and eight-year-old Wiley wants to fight everything, including innocent game villagers and Ben. Even before reading, people discussing the premise singled out Wiley’s indiscriminate aggression.
The comedy at work
Ploof puts the usual tournament dangers alongside a teammate problem Ben can’t easily walk away from: his relatives have come to play on their own terms. Their incompatible ideas of a good family outing keep interfering with his plans to win.
